“Hello World!”

October 8, 2007 at 3:32 pm (goings-on, Other)

More like “Hello Family!” or even “Hello Neighbors!” I’m not out to reach the whole world (except, of course, for this obligatory shout-out to Albania: Hi dad!).  Really, I just thought this would be a good way to keep my flung-to-the-corners-of-the-earth-family updated on what’s new in my life. Stephen–for those of you who may have stumbled here and don’t know, he’s my common-law partner (a legally valid relationship here in Canada), basically my husband for all intents and purposes, or my “illegal relative,” as his grandmother Eleanor used to say–anyway, Stephen’s got a blog. His sister-in-law is in charge of her family blog and even registered a moment lucid enough to update it on the day of the birth of her fourth child (Go Emily!). I figure, even my mom has a blog. It’s time to stop fighting it and roll with the technologically advancing world. It is a flat world and getting flatter all the time. I’m currently reading The World Is Flat by Thomas Friedman, and while I agree that the phenomenon of global connection and collaboration through technological means is great for business, I’m more interested in the internet’s capacity to connect people in real life and in real time. That’s the good stuff.
